The CEO of the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors, Sunday Oduntan, says electricity subsidies in Nigeria are unsustainable and fuel corruption.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Business Morning’, Oduntan said the subsidy system is inefficient and causes shortfalls across the power sector, affecting generation, transmission, and distribution.
He questioned the government’s ability to maintain the subsidy and called for a more targeted approach — where only those in need receive help.
He also urged that customers under the 24/7 Band A service should all be metered and ready to pay cost-reflective rates.
