The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has denied reports that it has unconditionally reopened Nigeria’s open drug markets.

Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, stated during a press briefing that reopenings remain conditional on compliance with regulations and payment of investigative charges.

She revealed that over ₦1 trillion worth of counterfeit and illegal drugs, including narcotics, were seized from markets in Lagos, Aba, and Onitsha.

Adeyeye insisted that no shop would reopen without signing undertakings and obtaining proper licenses. She stressed that NAFDAC will not cave in to pressure, as the crackdown aims to protect public health and ensure global trade compliance.
