A planned nationwide birthday rally and fundraiser by the Obidient Movement for former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has stirred mixed reactions across Nigeria.

Organisers called on supporters to donate toward Obi’s 64th birthday celebration on July 19, 2025, aiming to fund logistics, volunteer kits, and charity outreach. But critics have slammed the move as tone-deaf amid economic hardship, accusing the group of veiled political fundraising.

Clarifying, the group’s coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, said the initiative is voluntary and not orchestrated by Obi himself, stressing it will focus on charity and solidarity.
