The much-anticipated Awka South Football League Season 2 finally unfurled its vibrant colors in a dazzling opening ceremony on Sunday, the 10th of September 2023, at the iconic Awka Township Stadium. The football fever was palpable as ten teams took to the field in a spectacular display of skill and camaraderie.
The defending champions, De Wilson FC, set the tone for an electrifying season by battling to a draw against the spirited Peace FC. The excitement didn’t stop there. Fortune FC showcased their prowess by convincingly defeating News Saint FC with a commanding 4:0 performance. In another riveting match, Umuawulu FC and Dynamic FC demonstrated their mettle, concluding the game in a thrilling 2-2 draw. Pope John Paul FC secured a hard-fought victory against Dynamite FC with a final score of 2-1, while 3Block FC managed to clinch a narrow victory over Amawbia United with a solitary goal.
Honorable Ofili Chekwube, the Chairman of the Awka South Local Football Council and the visionary behind the Awka South Football League, extended his heartfelt appreciation to all who contributed to making this opening ceremony an unforgettable success.
