Land Boundary disputes between Umuezeobodo Ajilija Ogidi and Umudunu Agbaja Abatete, both in Idemili North Council Area of Anambra State, have been settled after more than fifty years of tussle.

Members of the Anambra State Boundary Commission at the Deputy Governor’s office were present to do the demarcation and to mark the official settlement of the disputes.

The communities decided to embraced peace to pave way for meaningful development in their area.

In an address, Governor Willie Obiano, represented by the Deputy Governor, who is also the Chairman of Anambra State Boundary Committee, Dr. Nkem Okeke, regretted that land disputes are creating much havoc across the country.

The Governor pointed out that boundary demarcations are merely for administrative purposes.

Speaking, the President General of Ogidi, Chief Nelson Onubogu,  cautioned the community members against selling lands which, he noted, could destabilise the peace initiative.

Also contributing, the President-General of Agbaja Abatete, Chief Ernest Ekunie, who represented Chief Law Okoye, restated that they are peace loving people, committed to maintaining the peace.

A prominent indigene of Ogidi community and Chairman of the Reconciliation  Committee, Chief Sam Anyawutaku, lamented that the land dispute has hindered progress in both communities, and thanked God and the state government for restoring the much needed peace.

He maintained that he considered the peace talk which he initiated as service to God and prayed God to bless the communities, calling on all the parties involved to embrace peace.

Prayers were  offered for the enthronement of peace in the communities.

Official commissioning of the boundary and placement of monuments, were some of the highpoints of the event.
