On Thursday 23rd Jude 2022 Agulu Community in Aniocha Council Area of Anambra state shutdown their markets, shops and daily activities to enable her indigenes and residents get enrolled in the ongoing Permanent Voters Card (PVC) exercise which started by 6am with Over 40 Buses conveying people to Anaocha LGA Headquarters Neni for capturing.
More than thousand five hundred(1,500) persons were reportedly turned up for the exercise.
According to Our Correspondent, Marvelous Ezenwa all shops and markets in Agulu were locked while the exercise lasted in all the 20 villages in Agulu.
According to our Correspondent, the exercise saw about 25-30 percent of people successfully registered while about 70-75 percent of people were unable to be registered citing inability of INEC to provide enough machines to capture them as the reason.
In an interview, the PRO of the Agulu peoples Union Hon Chinazo Onwuazombe explained that the people of Agulu community came out in their numbers as agreed by the ten President Generals of each town that make up Aniocha Councill Area.
Recall that each of the towns had agreed on one town per day with regards to the PVC registration at the local government headquarters and Thursday 23rd June was the day chosen by Agulu Community.
To their utmost dismay, on getting to the venue, the people of Agulu discovered that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has only 3 capturing machines and it takes about 20-30 minutes to register and capture one person which made it difficult to register more people, numbering over one thousand five hundred on the ground.
Hon. Chinazo is however calling on the federal government and INEC to make provision for more machines and employ more hands to make it easier for INEC to capture more if not all Nigerians, to be able to exercise their right during the general election.
Also Speaking, the Chairman Committee on PVC in the Agulu community Comrade Adigo Chinonso complained about the poor service of INEC towards the registration exercise, urging the government and INEC to extend the PVC registration exercise if possible, to be able to enroll all eligible voters.
He further commends the PG of Agulu Chief Oliver Afamefuna for his effort in the initiative.
Azuka Ibeka from Eke Agulu suggested that some capturing machines be moved to several markets shops and strategic centers in Agulu to be able to capture more voters.
