Amanuke youths in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State have taken a giant step towards restoring peace in the community.
To this end, the youths rallied round the ten villages in the community to elect a youth leader that has the support of all the youths in the community.
Presenting the new youth leader, Mr Obinna Nwachukwu, to the apex decision-making body in the community, Oké-Ọkpa Irunese, and the entire community, at the Central Primary School field, Amanuke, the youths pledged their unalloyed support to the new leader.
They expressed their determination to give him the needed moral support to organise and protect the interests of the youths.
Speaking earlier, the former Deputy President-General of the Community, Mr Emeka Udenze-Ejiofor, said the day marked a new beginning in the community, as the youths have taken their destiny in their hands to ensure that peace returns to the community.
Mr Udenze-Ejiofor who poured condemned engine oil on his white cloth to signify the dark days, regretted that some members of the community have continued to sow the seed of discord, but promised that such days were over as they are now ready to make their community as “white as snow”, discarding its misfortunes of underdevelopment.
On his part, the new youth leader, Mr Nwachukwu, expressed his readiness to lead by example, as well as restore unity among the youths.
The new youth leader asserted that if the youths were united, the Community would be on its path to progress.
Welcoming the development, Otochalu, Oké Ọkpa Ilunese Amanuke, Mr Muokwugwo Ughanwa, represented by Mr Nweke Nwoye-Oyemezie, described youths as very important demography of every community, adding that their ability to come together as one to decide who would lead them showed that they were ready to restore sustainable peace to the Community.
The Vicar, Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Amanuke, Reverend Shedrach Obidajua, a stakeholder in the community, Mr Moses Afum and the spokesperson for Women, Mrs Nwanyankwoafor Obiekezie, expressed joy and optimism that with the new development, peace would soon return to the agrarian community.
Formal presentation of the youth leader, Mr Nwachukwu, to the Oké Ọkpa Ilunese accompanied by the youths of the community, as well as shouts of joy from the women and children were the highpoints of the ceremony.
