Our dynamic chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has received the report of the Supreme Court judgement on Anambra State primaries with mixed feelings.
On one hand we feel unhappy that our chapter has become the theatre to fault our great party with a tone of finality, on being in breach of its own election guidelines and therefore its constitution from which it derives.
What is more? No one has taken responsibility for this avoidable state of affairs, which has exposed up to caustic verbal umbrage by all three levels of the adjudication process.
It is needless to say that among others, HE Mai Mala Buni, Governor of Yobe State and Head of the Interim Leadership just ended in APC, HE Sen. John Akpan Udoedehe, Secretary of the interim leadership, Sen. Ken Nnamani, South East Representative in have a lot of explanation to offer to history on what went wrong for the party to flout its own statutes.
HE Dapo Abiodun, Governor of Ogun State, Chairman of so-called Anambra State APC Primaries Committee, his secretary, Sen. John Owan Enoh and Chief Basil Ejidike, former Caretaker Chairman of APC in Anambra State as well as other invisible but major spoilers will spend the next few years explaining to Nigeria why APC’s close opportunity was ruined on June 26,2021.
In fact, we expect profuse apologies from them.
On the other hand of the mix, the saga around Anambra APC Primaries and the party’s non-participation
in the November 6 election, going by the verdict of the apex court, has also projected APC as a party that does not tolerate infraction to its laws or selfish actions that pervert the law or thwart the common good.
It is reassuring to Ndi Anambra and Nigerians, and to our credit in APC that those who fought the heist that is clearly against our party Code of Ethics did not resort to violence or occasion loss of lives like other parties are known for.
We wish to uphold the pillars of the latter by commending Chief George Moghalu, a founding leader in our chapter for escalating the issues to the very end, despite hollow threats and temptations from different chambers of beneficiaries of the heist.
We commend our chapter leader, Sen. Chris Ngige for standing up for fairness. We also commend the aspirants in the aborted primaries for their stedfastness, courage and sacrifice to see the standard of primaries and congresses in our chapter grow, by challenging the scourge of June 26 and giving moral support to Chief Moghalu.
Our word of ‘bravo’ go to all others too numerous to mention particularly in the State Executive who insisted that the right thing should be done.
We seize the opportunity to rub in to aspirants in the 2023 elections that a new standard has been set and there is nothing to fear, as anyone who cannot cross the hurdles set by the Electoral Act 2022, and subject himself to fair debates and voting in primaries will not fly our flag at any level.
We encourage those wishing to vie for one position or another to proceed without let or hindrance, as there is nothing to fear- Old things are passed away .
APC remains a good, strong and winning brand, with the right combination of steps and actions.
We seize this opportunity to condemn those who pretend APC membership, but stealthily attend, or attempt to attempt PDP Caucus Meetings, as well as those who campaign tongue-in-cheek in our structures, but have obtained nomination forms elsewhere.
Our assurance to such people- who will be named in due course- is that there are sufficient provisions in the updated Electoral laws to make them losers in all the multiple platforms as a deterrent to perfidy.
Our chapter is increasing the tempo of bridging meetings to ensure that no one suffers any psychological injuries from the latest Supreme Court judgement, and will support the aspiration of anyone who fairly emerges as candidate in the 2023 elections.
