Anambra state Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for improved services to Nigerians in the discharge of the electoral duties.
Dr Ibezim made the commendation shortly after casting his vote in his Polling unit 016, Central School 1, Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area.
Deputy Governor Ibezim who rated INEC based on its performance in polling units across Mbaukwu community, adjudged this year’s accreditation and voting processes seamless, and expressed hope that people’s vote will count.
He asked the INEC not to disappoint the people’s trust in them.
Some stakeholders in Mbaukwu who spoke to the our correspondent during the exercise including Prince Nestor Ebede, Mr Chukwunonso Dim, and Dr Daniel Ejie appreciated the federal government and INEC for ensuring safe and peaceful election this time, asking INEC to do the needful by allowing the will of the people to prevail in announcement of the winners after the elections for peace and progress of the Nigerian nation.
Despite the fact that late arrival of materials brought about delay in the commencement of Presidential and National Assembly election in parts of Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka council area, and environs, the election held successfully.
Our Correspondent reports that elections commenced at about twelve noon in some areas, and twenty-five minutes to three o’clock in the afternoon in some polling units.
Electorate in Enugwu-Ukwu were stranded having stayed at various polling units from eight o’clock in the morning till past twelve mid-day, as they waited for INEC materials to arrive for the election.
At some minutes to one o’clock in the afternoon, election started in some polling units like Ebe Enuagu hall, Enugwu-Ukwu, Umuezu Awovu Enugwu-Ukwu and started around three o’clock in the afternoon at Adagbe Avomimi where materials arrived very late without some of the sensitive materials.
