The wife of Anambra Governor Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano has challenged women to make their health a priority by taking advantage of affordable healthcare policies instituted by the state government, as it has become more compelling in this COVID-19 era.
The founder of Caring Family Enhancement (CAFÉ) Initiative said this recently during the 2020 Local Government Tour at Onitsha North Local Government Area.
The 2020 LG tour by Mrs Obiano was her 7th since the coming of the current administration, making her the first Governor’s wife in the 29 year-history of Anambra to undertake such a tour.
Addressing the women, Osodieme enjoined all present to always pay attention and put all measures on ground in order to contain the Coronavirus pandemic in their various localities while explaining that COVID-19 was more dangerous in the elderly people or people suffering from underlying health issues, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, heart-related diseases, the aged and children.
She pleaded that people should wash their hands frequently, with water, wear face masks and observe social distancing of about two meters apart.
Osodieme then urged parents to sustain the fight against Gender Based Violence, especially the vulnerable ones in the society maintaining, that we must equip ourselves with the right tools for success, if you must hold up important stakes at both family and societal levels.
The Commissioner for Children and Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, said the recognition and presentation awards to some women by the Governor’s wife at the 2020 mother’s summit, showed a clear picture of a woman, bent on fighting for the right causes for womanhood.
Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Nnamdi Onukwuba, in his remarks comended the Governor’s wife saying, that just like her husband, She had redefined governance through inclusiveness and selfless service to humanity.
Earlier in her address, the wife of Transition Committee Chairman, Mrs Chizoba Mba, commended Osodieme for her proactive COVID-19 programmes, and massively distributing face masks to all 21 local government areas and markets in the state.
Member representing Onitsha North Constituency at Anambra State house of Assembly, Mr Eddie Ibuzor, while extolling the first lady’s generous attribute noted the gifts of Garri processing machine in 2018 to Eze Chima Community and Maize processing machine in 2019 to Ugwunobamkpa community, affirming that both donations had been helping the women of these communities greatly.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Ngozi Obi, expressed satisfaction to Osodieme for all her contributions to the widows, the physically challenged and indigent people of the community.
Dignitaries at the occasion include a Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Media, Mr Tony Nezianya, the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Tertiary Education, Mr Sally Mbanefo, Onitsha President- General of Improvement Union, Sir Chike Ekweogwu and the host, the Onitsha North Transition Committee Chairman Mr Patrick Agha Mba.
The event featured a distribution of 5kg bags of rice, undisclosed cash and school bags to women, children and the aged in Onitsha North.
