Anambra Government To Intervene To End Igweship Tussle Rocking Owelle Ancient Kingdom In Anambra West

Anambra State government has promised to intervene in the Igweship tussle rocking Owelle Ancient Kingdom in Anambra West, with a view to the finding a lasting Soludo.

Secretary to Anambra State Government, Prof Solo Chukwulelu, stated this while addressing people of the Community who carried out protest at the Government House, Awka, demanding the reinstatement of their traditional ruler, Igwe Sir Anthony Onyekwere.

The protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as “We demand for immediate withdrawal of certificate of recognition issued to Col Raymond Omoja in error”, “We want reinstatement of Igwe Sir Anthony Onyekwere, Owelle is going backwards”, Children are no longer going to School, In Owelle town”, Igweship tenure is for lifetime”, Igwe Anthony is still alive and Igweship in Owelle is not political but by Appointment”.

Prof Chukwulobelu expressed satisfaction with the manner the protesters conducted themselves and assured them that state government will bringback lasting peace and stability in Owelle Ancient Kingdom.

He advised them to submit necessary documents to the state government and to Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, and maintained that due process should be followed in attracting government’s intervention.

Prof Chukwulobelu hinted that the present Administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo is committed to ensuring that absolute peace and stability return to all communities in Anambra State.

Responding the former President-General of the town, Mr Peter Udeorah, expressed displeasure that since Igwe Onyekwere was destaffed, the community has been thrown into confusion, Anarchy, schools closed down, parents and children in the community living in abject poverty and no development, hence the need to re-instate Igwe Anthony Onyekwere as the the authentic traditional ruler of the town.

The President-General made it clear that Igwe Anthony is the community’s choice, noting also that the Igweship title was bestowed on him, adhering to the Culture and tradition of Owelle Ancient Kingdom.

He further maintained that Igwe Anthony is still alive and has not committed any crime to warrant his dethronement.

In their separate speeches, Chief Joseph Nnakwe, Chief Anthony Unubi, Mr Peter Ibechi and Iyom Joy Innoruka, applealed to state government to re-enstate him for peace and progress of the town.
