Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Health has trained the second batch of Faith-based hospitals on COVID-19 Chain of Survival Strategies.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala said that the training would help to contain the pandemic.
The first batch of Faith-based Hospitals was trained on Feb,19 by the State Government through the Ministry of Health.
Dr. Okpala commended participants for turning out in large numbers while assuring that the Government would continue to play her part in the healthcare sector.
The training was held at Wintess Garden Hotels, Awka.
According to the Commissioner the previous training with the first batch was aimed at interacting with the leadership of faith-based hospitals in the state in creating a defined approach to the pandemic ravaging the state.
Speaking on the need for the partnership Okpala affirmed that religious leaders play a huge role in the health system, while urging the pastors among the participants to properly inform their congregations about the virus while preaching as the disease is only an article of science and not faith.
Dr. Okpala while commending the health care personnel disclosed that about 75 percent of care rendered in the state is provided by the private/faith-based hospitals adding that it was important the government partnered with them to end the pandemic.
The commissioner further emphasised the recently introduced State COVID-19 Chain of Survival Strategies and according to him it has helped to save many lives and urged them to adopt the chain in treating patients.
He then commended Gov. Willie Obiano for his continued support in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
Lectures on critical and emerging issues in COVID-19 prevention, management, and control by the Infection, Prevention, and Control Focal Person of the State Ministry of Health, Dr. Kenneth Nwokolo also featured at the Update session.
In attendance during the training were the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Linus Nwankwo, and Mrs. Onyedikachi Oluchi Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Medical Supply and Equipment.
