Anambra Govt Cautions Against Domestic Violence
Promises Justice For Late Mrs Chidiebere Iloka,
Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, has advised married and intending couples that violence should not be used to solve marital problems.
The Commissioner stated this while speaking to journalists in Awka, following clamour for justice for the late Mrs Chidiebere Iloka, wife of the suspended Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North LGA, Mr Mbazulike Iloka.
Mrs Obinabo, assured that the present administration will ensure that justice prevails, once result of autopsy confirms that the actual cause of the death was due to domestic violence.
She restated the importance of premarital counseling for intending couples, as well as tolerance and prayers for successful marriage.
Obinabo expressed concern that some people circumvent premarital counseling process, leading to broken marriages and sometimes homicide, and called on religious organizations and other relevant stakeholders to step up the process to help in addressing challenges in marriage.
The Commissioner further acknowledged that about thirty percent of married women equally abuse their husbands physically, emotionally and otherwise, often leading to loss of self-confidence on the part of men, and cautioned women against unnecessary influence from what she termed over exposure.
The Women and Social Welfare Commissioner also spoke on the negative effect domestic violence has on children.
She assured that the Children, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Court set for such cases is on course to ensure victims get Justice.
