Anambra Govt. Urges Ndi Anambra To Plant Trees To Guard Against Climate Change, Erosion
Ndi Anambra have been advised to plant trees within their households to guard against climate change and erosion.
The Commissioner for Environment, Dr Felix gave the advice during the flag-off of Tree Planting Exercise by Senatorch limited at Amazon Housing Estate, Enugwu-Agidi in Njikoka LGA.
Dr Odimegwu noted that the company has complemented state Government’s efforts in creating green zones and arresting over one thousand active erosion sites in the state by planting trees.
He stated that Anambra State Government distributed over one million trees to about one hundred and thirty households last year to mitigate effects of climate change, build a clean and green environment, as well as arrest erosion ravaging parts of Anambra State.
The Commissioner maintained that tree planting will ensure sustainable environment by guarding against erosion and flooding, and commended the company for building an estate with the touch of nature.
On his part, the Managing Director of Senatorch limited, Mr Chidi Amaeze, explained that the vision is to recreate Amazon in Brazil a densely populated vegetation filled with many untapped trees in the State.
He informed the gathering that they have decided to embrace Governor Soludo’s vision of planting four million trees in within four years by planting three thousand organically grown trees and flowers inside the Estate, since trees help human life through emission of oxygen, and to arrest erosion within the neighbourhood.
He also noted that the exercise will further improve the aesthetics of the estate and make it the first private estate to develop the idea of green zone in the state.
In his remark, the Transition Committee Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, Mr Clems Aguiyi, expressed joy that the move is in line with Anambra State Government policy to have Anambra environment clean and sustainable, and urged other estate developers to emulate him.
In their reactions, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Foster Ihejofor, and the Managing Director of Anambra State Fishery and Aquaculture Business Development Agency, Mr Emeka Iloghalu, highlighted the economic and health benefits of trees, and called on Ndi Anambra to join hands with Government to preserve green environment so that Anambra will be recognized for longevity
The occasion climaxed with tree planting inside the estate by Mr Amaeze and government officials that graced the occasion.
