Anambra Police Commissioner Condemns Attack On Ogbaru LGA Hqters By Armed Arsonists

Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has condemned the attack on Ogbaru LGA Headquarters by armed arsonists in morning hours of Saturday, 15th June, 2024.

The attack, which resulted in the destruction of four patrol vehicles belonging to the vigilantes, has been described as an act of cowardice, though there were no casualties.

A statement issued by the State Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Saturday revealed that preliminary information indicates that the assailants, arriving in large numbers on motorcycles and a vehicle, started shooting indiscriminately.

According to Ikenga, they however, faced strong resistance from the Vigilante Operatives until the police response team arrived.

He said due to superior firepower of the security operatives, the gunmen fled the scene, adding that unfortunately, four operational vehicles of the security operatives were engulfed in flames and severely damaged.

The PPRO further intimated that in response to the incident, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations led a joint security force comprising the Army, Navy, and other security agencies to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.

According to him, ongoing onslaught operations are being carried out to apprehend the culprits.

He informed that the Commissioner of Police commended the security operatives for their bravery and assures the public of continued and strengthened collaboration in the fight against criminal elements in the State.

The Police spokesperson promised that further developments would be communicated as they arise
