The Anambra State Government is cracking down on fake news, denying recent claims that Fulani herdsmen attacked a community in Umuchu.

Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, said on Sunday that investigations found no evidence of any such incident.

He warned against the circulation of false audio and video messages on social media, calling it a threat to public peace and security.

The government is now leveraging advanced technology to trace and prosecute those behind fake content under Nigeria’s cybercrime laws.

Mefor said the state will no longer tolerate attempts to incite fear or disturb peace.

He urged citizens to verify information and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports.
