To ensure the safety of road users, Anambra State Government has decided to destroy the illegal and indiscriminate speed breakers across the state to ensure the safety of road users.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Awka on Friday, Marcel Ifejiofor, Commissioner for Works, stated that speed breakers built by communities or individuals without proper approval from the appropriate quarters would be destroyed.

He said the speed breakers were unprofessionally built and constituted a grave danger to road users.

In the same vein, he urged motorists to drive carefully and observe traffic rules as there are strategic speed bumps that are designed to curb accidents.

He said that there are a number of speed breakers on the highways in Anambra, motorists in the state and those coming in are advised to observe them. He also said that the illegal speed breakers are damaging vehicles and will no longer be tolerated.

He also said that there are specifications for speed breakers and if anyone wants to install them, they should write to the Ministry of Works and they will supervise it.

Ifejiofor also said the ministry was embarking on massive repairs of all roads in the state with 10 contractors working concurrently in the three senatorial zones.

He said while the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency was patching the potholes, the contractors would be working on the roads severely damaged by erosion; as well as open up new ones.

According to him, the state is working on getting approval from the Federal Ministry of Works for the repairs of federal roads in the state.
