A one-day workshop on Ecosystem restoration with the theme, ‘ Forest and Livelihood: Sustaining People and Planet’, has ended.
Organized by Anambra state Ministry of Environment,the Commissioner for environment, Engr Felix Odimegwu said that the planet and peoples livelihood can be maintained by sustainable use of natural resources.
He said that in addition to adopting forest conservation practices like re-afforestation, afforestation, monitor agriculture, sustained yield method, protecting existing forests, planned and regulated tree-cutting, refraining from exploiting nature through destructive activities like mining, hunting, deforestation will help conserve, manage and utilize the resources
The Tree planting flag-of , which is part of plans for Governor Soludo to make Anambra State a Megacity, also took place at Ekwueme square after the workshop.
The event was widely attended by many Notable Environmental organisations, Anambra State Commissioner for lands and Agriculture respectively, MD ASWAMA and staff, Top Government officials, Appointees of the Governor on Environment, Academicians from the state university and friends of the Environment, Staff from ministry of Environment and Agriculture as well other citizens.
Anambra State Government forest reserve which includes Mamu river forest reserve(Orumba), Osomari forest reserve(Ogbaru), Achalla forest reserve(Ogbaru) will be afforested and reafforested with Ukwa also known as jack fruit or breadfruit, G melina, African pear, and pine
This new development will help control erosion, prevent flood, reduce wind erosion and foster recreation in form of ecotourism.
