Anambra State On Saturday, 15th January, 2022, Joined Other States To Commemorate Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Anambra State yesterday, 15th January, 2022, joined other states in the country to commemorate the Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Speaking at the event which took place at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, Governor Willie Obiano said the occasion marked every year, brings to mind with solemnity, the sacrifices of members of the Nigerian Armed Forces who laid down their lives that others might live a better life.

He said it also aims at honouring the ex-service men and women living with different kinds of disabilities, including those permanently damaged by the horrors of armed conflict and war.

He pointed out that through the ages, freedom has not always been free, whereas the tree of liberty is regularly watered by the blood of patriots… men and women who paid the supreme price for their fellow citizens to live free.

Governor Obiano who further noted that the country has been battling acts of internal aggression for years now, and almost every day, brave service men and women fall to the aggressive acts of their fellow citizens in peace time, a situation, he noted, has left the country bleeding from North to South.

He observed that the Armed Forces have been at the receiving end of those unprovoked internal conflicts.

Laying the wreaths and releasing the pigeons in their memory, the Governor prayed for their peaceful repose and also prayed that God’s peace descend on Nigeria.
