Anambra State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi has informed motorists plying the Onitsha-Owere Express road that the road has caved in around Oraifite axis of the road, in Ekwusigo Council Area.

The road failure was reportedly caused by heavy erosion which had eaten deep into the expressway.

An articulated truck was on Tuesday trapped in the failed portion of the expressway in Oraifite,

The tanker laden with diesel was said to be passing through the route when it suddenly fell into the caved-in portion of the road, spilling some of its contents.

State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Irelewuyi, who confirmed the incident, said they had to transfer the load from the trapped tanker, while the remaining portion of the road has been closed completely to avoid loss of lives.

Irelewuyi advised motorists and other road users to take alternative routes, including Obosi road, assuring that officers and men of the Corps were on the ground to control traffic.
