The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, says Ash Wednesday which marks the beginning of Lent is a time Christians should embark on self-examination to see if they are still on the right track.

Bishop Ezeokafor who stated this while interacting with journalists in his office at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, maintained that Ash Wednesday is a time Christians refine their lives as followers of Jesus Christ.

He charged Christians to be humble and live a life of penance in order to be with Christ on the last day, reminding them also of the need to love one another in addition to remembering the poor in their midst which is the hallmark of a Christian Life.

Speaking on the significance of Ash Wednesday, Most Reverend Ezeokafor posited that it is a time for genuine repentance for salvation.

He cautioned Christians against what he called the Gospel of convenience, explaining that the mark of Ash on the forehead on Ash Wednesday is an indication of repentance and also to remind man that was made from the dust and will return to the dust.
