Awka South Council Decongests Trading Activities At Pedestrian Crossing, UNIZIK  Temporary Site, Awka – Heartbeat Of The East

Awka South local Government Council has deployed its Decongestion Task Force Team to disband trading activities on Pedestrian Bridge, UNIZIK Temporary Site Junction Awka.

The Transition Committee Chairman of the Council Area, Mr. Leo Nwuba disclosed this while on assessment drive at the pedestrian bridge.

Our Correspondent reports that the drive follows a directive from the state government on the ground of numerous petitions and the difficulties people encounter while trying to use the pedestrian bridge during the morning and evening hours.

The Decongestion Task Force Team of the council instituted to address some anomalies going on in the local government area is to be aided by security operatives to discourage the ugly trend of trading, hawking and begging at the pedestrian bridge so that the place will not become a den for hoodlums.

Addressing traders at the bridge, Mr. Nwuba said that the drive is an on the spot assessment and warning to the people to desist from the unlawful behavior which he said poses threats to the users of the bridge, urging them to take all trading activities to approved markets in order to maintain orderliness and beauty of the state.

Mr. Nwuba said that the council has made announcement in media stations and written to the said traders before now to desist from trading at the pedestrian bridge or have their goods confiscated as they will be made to pay fines before reclaiming and relocating to the approved markets.

Also speaking, the Head of Decongestion Task Force Team of the Council Prince Ikechukwu Ndigwe, said that the men of the Task Force Team have been well trained and cautioned against compromising their job assuring that they are fully positioned at strategic locations to monitor and arrest defaulters who fail to comply.
