The Borno State government has set a December deadline for private schools and colleges that have not undergone accreditation or reaccreditation, warning them of the possibility of complete closure.

According to a statement from the Borno State Ministry of Education, as issued by the Director of Schools, Alhaji Mustapha Umar, it was disclosed that the ministry has successfully accredited or reaccredited Two Hundred and Sixty-six private schools and colleges to date. It also stated that any school that has not yet undergone this process is operating illegally and faces potential closure at any time.

Alhaji Mustapha Umar also explained that accreditation and reaccreditation processes for both new and existing schools were initiated in September 2022, with a deadline originally set for January 30, 2023, but later extended by four months, concluding on May 30, 2023. During this period, private schools and colleges were expected to submit for inspection and receive their accreditation or reaccreditation certification.

The ministry expressed optimism about accrediting more schools in the near future and emphasized that only accredited private schools and colleges are permitted to operate, urging the public to take note of this requirement.
