Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, has warned that Nigerians will suffer if judges are not well-paid.
Speaking at a Senate hearing, Ariwoola, represented by Borno’s Chief Judge Kashim Zannah, emphasized that increasing judges’ salaries is crucial for justice.
He compared the judiciary’s financial situation to a patient in critical condition needing urgent care. The last salary review for judges was in 2007.
Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi noted that President Bola Tinubu approved a 300% salary increase for judicial officers last year.
Finance Minister Wale Edun urged swift passage of the bill to support the judiciary and benefit all Nigerians.
