
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has emphasized on the key role the media plays in the success or otherwise of military operations in the fight against insecurity, calling on the media to deny terrorists publicity.
In a release by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the director of Army Public Relations on Thursday, 13 January 2022, Gen. Yahaya made this known when he hosted the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of Sun Publishing Limited, Mr Onuoha Ukeh and his management team at the Army Headquarters, Abuja.
Maintaining that support and sacrifices of the media in the fight against insurgency and banditry were well noted and highly appreciated, he pointed out that expectations of the Nigerian Army was that the media will continue to support the efforts of the military as part of their patriotic duty by giving publicity to troops’ operations to shore up morale and fighting will.
He added that conversely, denying insurgents publicity will relieve fifty percent of the military’s work.
The COAS also thanked the Editor-in-Chief and his management team for the courtesy visit, appreciating the media for their commitment and support.
Meanwhile in his remarks, the CEO of “Sun Publishing Limited” Mr Onuoha Ukeh, while lauding the Nigerian Army for its efforts, sacrifices and synergy with sister agencies – which have changed the dynamics of the military operations, and led to the surrendering of insurgents, he promised continued support and collaboration between the Sun Newspapers and the Nigerian Army.
