The International Federation of Association Football, FIFA, is set to launch the Intercontinental Cup, a new annual international club competition starting from 2024.

Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, announced this on Sunday via Instagram, outlining a playoff phase involving champions from Africa, Asia, South America, Oceania, and North America. The playoff winner will face off against the UEFA Champions League winners in a final at a neutral venue.

Additionally, FIFA disclosed plans for the revamped 32-team Club World Cup, scheduled to run from June 15 to July 13, 2025.

In 2022, FIFA announced the shift of the men’s Club World Cup to a quadrennial tournament, with increased participants from seven to 32 teams.

The inaugural edition will be hosted by the US, featuring eight groups of four teams each, with the top two group advancing to the knockout stages.

Teams will qualify based on sporting criteria over the most recent four seasons.
