In a related development, Lady Ibadin Chukwu , State Commander, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has called for collaboration among state and non-state actors if there will be a reduction of violence against women and girls. She stated that NAPTIP works under the 5 Ps as enshrined in Prevention, Protection, Policy, Partnership and Prosecution.
She made this known at the day one of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Against Women with the theme, Orange the World; End Violence Against Women Now. The program was organised and funded by the EU and Rule of Law and Anti Corruption(RoLAC)
Stating the objectives of the programme, Ugochi Freeman said that the goal of the programme was to initiate and set up partnerships for the prevention and responses to violence against women and girls and lead discussions to develop a roadmap towards sustainable collaboration to end GBV.
Addressing Pressmen, Child Protection Network State Lead , Loveth Uju rolled out activities that will mark the 16 days of activism to include; Roundtable Discussions with Presidents- General of towns and Traditional rulers in the state to ensure grassroots representation, Open Campaigns across the three Senatorial Zones in the state, Showcase of testimonial documentaries according to international standard and an Award event to appreciate partners that have been working together to eliminate GBV in the state.
Josephine Onah of RoLAC emphasized that the Joint Association of People Living With Disabilities is an integral part of the programme as a crime against girls and women living with Disabilities is a crime against all.
Present at the event were CSOs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Civil Defence, Media Organisations, among others.
Highlights of the event were group discussions and road mapping, pictures and refreshments.
