Customs Service In Ogun Intercepts 8 Trailer Loads Of Foreign Rice, Other Goods

The Controller of the Nigeria Customs Services, Ogun1 Area Command, Idiroko Comptroller Bamidele Makinde, has disclosed that within the period of one month, the command has intercepted a total number of 4, 603 bags of foreign parboiled rice with each weighing 50kg, an equivalent of 8 trailer loads.

Disclosing this to Journalists at Idiroko, Comptroller Makinde said 37,450 litres of Petroleum Motor Spirit in 1,498kegs of 25 liters each and 300 cartons of Frozen poultry products, were also among items seized during the period of one month.

He also revealed that the  cumulative Duty Payable Value (DPV) of all the seizures in the month of April  amounted to Eighty Two Million, Eight hundred and Twenty One Thousand,Three Hundred and Thirty Seven Naira, Zero kobo (N82, 821, 337,00)

According to him, other items intercepted are: 89 cartons of foreign wine, 35 cartons and 12 packets of tomatoe paste, 2 units of Foreign used vehicles (Tokunbo), 8 units of means of conveyance, 2units of Motor cycle among others seizures.

He said they were able to achieve the feat through hard work and intelligence gatherings of his officers.

Makinde moreover, attributed the success of his Command to collaborating efforts of critical stakeholders, members of the media, sister Security agencies and Traditional Rulers, and thanked all for their support and synergy with his Command. 

Answering questions on the reopening of border by the Federal government, Makinde disclosed that youth restlessness which hitherto, characterized the border closure has been  drastically.reduced.

“We are still at the skeletal stage of doing business with all our accredited Customs agents, but the modalities and documentations procedure are there for any body who wants to know how to do legitimate businesses”.

“In terms of socio economic effects, life is gradually coming back to the border areas. People that are ready for legal businesses are welcomed, but the restlessness among the youths is going down. The environment has changed, people are responding” Makinde added.

Comptroller Bamidele therefore, warned all the criminal elements in Ogun State that in whichever way and methods they plan their smuggling activities, his Command shall uncover, arrest and make seizures.
