Perilous journeys in rustic vessels have become some people’s hope for survival, even though a few of the passengers survive such ordeal. Such was the fate of Cuban migrants who boarded a vessel to Florida.

On Sunday, 20th November, 2022, the United States Coast Guard said it recovered the body of one person after a vessel carrying Cuban migrants capsized off Florida’s Little Torch Key, rescuing nine people and still searching for five others.

According to survivors, a total of 19 people were on the vessel before it capsized. Four people drowned immediately.

Several attempts to reach Florida , especially on rickety vessels , from the Caribbean Island , have been connected to the severe economic downturn in Cuba. Some people have been reported to fly to Central America or Mexico and reach the US border by land.

In September 2022, a record of 220,000 Cubans were stopped at the U.S Mexico border, while some were allowed into the United States to pursue immigration cases.
