The Dangote Refinery in Lagos has unveiled its first sample of refined petrol, promising to supply high-quality fuel for both Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa.
Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, presented the sample during a broadcast from the refinery located in Ibeju-Lekki. The facility, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, has been undergoing test runs. Dangote thanked the Nigerian government and President Bola Tinubu for supporting the refinery and implementing a crude-for-naira exchange policy to stabilize the local currency.
He stated that the refinery will help track Nigeria’s true petrol consumption and streamline distribution. The refinery aims to meet local demand and supply other African nations.
Meanwhile, Dangote has criticized international oil companies for not selling crude to local refineries and prioritizing foreign markets. A recent dispute with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission highlighted issues with crude supply, with Dangote denying the receipt of 29 million barrels of crude allocated by the commission.
