The Nigerian National Petroleum Limited (NNPCL) has agreed to allow oil marketers from the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) to lift petrol from its depots at reduced prices.
The National Publicity Secretary of IPMAN, Chinedu Ukadike, revealed this in an interview with news men on Saturday.
The national officer stated that the meeting was attended by a director from the NMDPRA and the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPCL, Mele Kyari, making it easy to shift grounds to enable independent marketers to load products.
This decision follows a threat from IPMAN to halt operations due to high costs associated with loading fuel. Previously, NNPCL was selling petrol to independent marketers at N1,010 per litre, despite purchasing it from Dangote Refinery at N898.
After a peace meeting facilitated by the Department of State Services, NNPCL will now permit loading to cover an outstanding debt of N15 billion owed to marketers. The resolution aims to ease tensions and support the deregulation of the oil sector.
