Muslim leaders in Enugu have called on Governor Peter Mbah to ensure fairness and inclusivity in appointments to the state’s welfare board.
Speaking at a news conference, Musa Ani of the Uwani Islamic Centre expressed concern that some individuals may have been appointed without wider consultation.
He urged the governor to engage key Islamic leaders and the Council of Ulama in the process. Also speaking, Mohammed Lawan of the Council of Ulama emphasized that board appointees must be knowledgeable in Islamic teachings, as pilgrimage to Hajj is a core pillar of Islam.
The Muslim community is appealing for justice and calm as the matter unfolds.
Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah recently appointed Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf Sambo, Sarkin Hausawa of Enugu, as his Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties. Sambo has been pivotal in fostering unity between the Hausa community and their Igbo hosts.
