The National Centre For Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (NACGRAB) has predicted increased food sufficiency and price reduction in Nigeria following the success of the Seed For Resilience (SFR) project.

NACGRAB Acting Director, Dr Anthony Okere, highlighted the project’s achievements in diversifying sorghum, cowpea, and other crops, enhancing farmers’ productivity, and mitigating climate change effects.

He also said that farmers, based on positive feedback, now access quality seeds from NACGRAB genebank, leading to higher yields.

Dr Olabisi Alamu, the Activity Team Leader, noted engagement with farmers in Oyo, Niger, and Kano states, impacting over 1,000 farmers, as farmers, adopting the project, have multiplied seeds, disseminating them for wider use, ultimately promoting food and nutrition security in Nigeria.

Oyo State AFAN Chairman, Mr Abass Adewumi, acknowledged the project’s educational impact, guiding farmers in optimal seed selection for increased yields and profit.
