The Federal Government has withdrawn the contempt of court proceedings against organized labour for their nationwide protest.
This is according to a letter addressed to the lead counsel of NLC, Falana and Falana’s Chambers letter by the Solicitor General of the Federation, Mrs. B.E. Jeddy-Agba, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The Federal Ministry of Justice had issued summons to the organized labor leadership through the National Industrial Court, NICN, for contempt of court due to the protest. Despite exchanges and interventions, the labor unions proceeded with the protest on August 2, leading to work disruptions and the pulling down of the National Assembly gate.
The organized labor went on a nationwide strike to protest the Federal Government refusal to withdraw the contempt of court charges related to the protest, which was carried out in opposition to anti-poor government policies, including subsidy removal.
