The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC Anambra State Sector Command has
impounded more than ten tippers and articulated vehicles in Onitsha.
This act was to clamp down on heavy duty vehicles that are not road worthy that lead to road crashes in the state.
The places exercise started from Atani by Obodo Ukwu junction through Harbor Industrial layout, Ahia Idemili and Iyiowa Odekpe.
When they arrived the different locations, some of the tipper drivers ran away leaving their vehicles behind while those who followed the FRSC
officials to the station resisted the enforcement.
The Anambra State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Andrew Kumapayi said the command would not relent on clamping down defaulters, noting that the exercise is to reduce the mishaps caused by heavy duty
vehicle drivers on roads.
He also noted that the exercise started in Awka but would be extended
to other zones of the command and warned the drivers to put their
vehicles in order before using the road or face the consequences.
A tipper drivers, Ekezie Okoye, whose vehicle was impounded
admitted that he was at fault, because he didn’t have a head lamp and side mirror which could cause accident but pleaded that his vehicle be released so he can source money to fix it.
The vehicles impounded didn’t have the following:
side mirrors, deflated tyres, no head lamps, faulty brakes and door
handles among others.
Those involved in the exercise include the National Drug Law
Enforcement Agency NDLEA, Vehicle Inspection Officials VIO and the
Nigeria Police Force.
