The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Utsev, has deployed technical experts to Imo State to evaluate local dams and develop a comprehensive action plan addressing challenges in dam construction. Deputy Director of the ministry’s technical division, Abiola Oluwatosin, announced the mission in Owerri, highlighting the assessment of both structural integrity and environmental impact on communities.
Oluwatosin explained that the visit aims to create solutions for flooding, irrigation, and hydropower development. The team has already visited the Ivo and Adada dams in Enugu State and the Amauzari and Inyishi dams in Imo.
A technical subcommittee, inaugurated by Minister Utsev and including experts from the National Security Adviser’s office, the Nigeria Society of Engineers, and other bodies, is analyzing dam conditions nationwide. This committee will soon present its findings and technical advice for safer and more sustainable water resources management.
