
The body of the Founder and Pioneer Rector of Pallotine Mission in Nigeria , Late Rev. Fr. Peter Jakob Hillen has been laid to rest in Palloti House Limburg, Germany.
Late Father Peter Jakob Hellen, a German missionary to Africa, who according to the Superior of the Pallotine Mission in Nigeria, Rev. Father Cosmas Chidi Onwukwe, slumped and died in his garden in Hoffenheim close to Cologne in Germany on Saturday July 18, 2020.
Fr. Cosmos Chidi Onwukwe also disclosed that Fr.Jakob had spent over thirty three years in Africa; Cameroon , Malawi , South Africa including 12 years in Nigeria which he said affected many lives positively through his scholarship, free housing Scheme , free borehole and human capital development . He was aged 67.
On his part, the traditional ruler of Mbaukwu, Igwe P.N Anugwu, in his tribute, described the diseased as a committed missionary who through his evangelism and humanitarian gestures, won many souls for Christ , produced numerous committed Rev.Fathers and missionaries and also changed the fortunes of the poor and downtrodden, which he said, is what Christianity is all about.
While extending his condolences to Government and people of Germany , friends and Family members, Pallotine mission, Igwe Anugwu revealed that the Late priest, whom he titled Odozi Obodo Mbaukwu due to his numerous humanitarian gestures in Nigeria , was a committed member of his Cabinet, and had wished and instructed to be buried in Pallotine mission headquarters in Nigeria, located in Mbaukwu Awka South council Area , Anambra State.
The traditional ruler further revealed that the German would have been buried in Nigeria as the late Missionary had wished, but for the cancelation of International Flights due to COVID-19 pandemic, his body could not be brought to the country despite several efforts he made.
The Igwe, on behalf of himself, the first family, his cabinet and entire people of Mbaukwu Kingdom, prayed for peaceful repose of soul of late Rev. Fr. Peter Jakob Hillen.
Memorial mass for the Late Fr. Peter Jakob Hillen has been fixed on 7th August 2020 2:30 pm in Mbaukwu and would be conducted by Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokefor, Bishop of Awka diocese.
