The Head of the Osu Traditional Area and the Chairman of the National House of Chiefs, Okwei Kinka Dowuona in Ghana, has justified the demolition of building identified as an extension of the Nigeria High Commission in Ghana.
The Head of Osu stool in a statement obtained by journalists, revealed that a Nigerian businessman unlawfully acquired an Osu Royal property, developed it and leased it to the Nigeria High Commission despite several warnings to desist.
He claimed that the Nigerian businessman was apparently hoping to hide under the cover of diplomatic immunity.
According to the paramount chief of the area, they had noticed that a construction work was being done on their land and as stipulated, they sent letters to the constructor to halt work and come over for a deliberation on the way forward since the particular land is not the property of the state.
He said their efforts were however fruitless so they had to take the necessary actions to halt progress of work on the building.
The statement reads, “On 20th June, 2020 an article published by Joy online claiming that armed men had demolished structure belonging to the Nigerian High Commission is wrong and has no justification.
He maintained that the said parcel of land belongs to the Osu stool and is to be used for purposes only agreed upon by the stool and its council of elders.
