Gombe Commissions ₦1 Billion Hybrid Power Project at Balanga Dam

Gombe State marked a major milestone in energy development on Friday with the commissioning of a ₦1 billion 620KW Small Hydropower–Solar Hybrid Power System at the Balanga Dam in Talasse.

The project funded by the European Union, Global Environment Facility, and Rural Electrification Agency, and implemented by UNIDO is designed to supply clean, stable electricity to thousands of residents and boost agriculture and local businesses.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Jatau, hailed the project as a turning point for inclusive development.

He urged residents to protect the facility, calling it a “people’s project.”
The hybrid system supports Nigeria’s renewable energy goals and rural electrification efforts.
