Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state has made a U-turn on naming the sponsors of banditry and kidnapping in the state.

Recall that the governor on December 18 said he would reveal those behind the recent attacks in the state during a Stakeholders Meeting on Tuesday.

However, after stakeholders had gathered, he said he won’t name them as planned but will instead allow security agencies to conclude their investigations and charge those sponsoring criminality to court.

He stated that since he made the announcement, many politicians have held on to that statement to cause problems in the state. He said that even the media, both mainstream and social, did not help matters.

He craved the indulgence of the stakeholders who had gathered to let them allow the security agencies to finish their investigation, arrest those that are responsible and charge them to court.

He also added that naming them would jeopardise the work of security agencies who are already doing a great job.

Before the governor changed his mind, the atmosphere in Imo state was tensed as stakeholders gathered at the Same Mbakwe Executive Chamber in the government house, Owerri.

It will also be recalled that in an earlier press statement signed by Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the Governor , Oguwike Nwachukwu said that former governor of the state, Senator Rochas Okorocha and his son in law, Chief Uche Nwosu have been implicated by suspects currently in detention as sponsors of kidnapping and banditry in the state.

Among those present at the meeting were the President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Professor George Obiozor, Imo state Commissioner for Police, Hussaini Rabiu, Former minister of Information, Walter Ofonagor, Speaker of the Imo state House of Assembly, Kennedy Ibeh, former governor of Imo state, Chief Ikedi Ohakim among others.
