Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has said this generation will fight Nigeria’s internal enemies to strengthen the unity of Nigeria, just like our founding fathers fought against the colonial masters and to give us the gift of Independence.
He stated this in his Independence Day speech yesterday, October 1st.
According to the governor, we are in a critical period of evolution as a free society as almost every day we witness events that test our patience as members of a sane society and the resolve of our leadership.
Describing Nigeria’s battles as internal, rather than external, he expressed hope that this generation will fight to strengthen the unity of Nigeria, adding that every generation must fight its own battles, win them and set a bright agenda for posterity.
Speaking on the brewing tension in the build up to the November 6 governorship election in the state, Obiano expressed that Anambra has been the safest state in Nigeria for eight years and he will not allow unconscionable politicians turn the State into a theater of crime and absurdity.
Adding that he had changed the story of Anambra State in the past eight years, he highlighted some of his achievements to include: construction of the International Airport, the largest Convention Center in Nigeria, a City Stadium, flyovers and bridges, including Golden Tulip Agulu Lake Hotel, an agricultural revolution, and solid educational and health sectors.
Speaking further he stated that the Independence Anniversary was a day for Reflection and stock taking, as Anambra is on the threshold of change and a great moment in history where people must rise together to take ownership of tomorrow, today. He then urged Anambrarians to take charge by ensuring to vote in the coming elections.
