The governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike has fully lifted the curfew imposed on the state since 28th of April, 2021.
In a state broadcast on Tuesday, Governor Wike outlined the reasons for the curfew that was imposed on the people as an avenue to maintain peace and security of lives as no sacrifice or price can be said to be too much to endure for the preservation of lives and property.
Gov Wike also stated that there have been measureable improvements in the security situation in the state as well as in their neighbouring states and to that effect, the existing curfew on the entire state has been lifted , effective from today, 7th July.
Expressing gratitude to citizens of the state for their understanding and cooperation during the trying period, he cautioned them to remain security conscious and report any suspicious situation to the security agencies for action. He also pledged to use every resource at the states disposal to ensure the safety of lives and property while also advancing the wellbeing of all residents
Wike also said the state is clearing the shanties that have become harbour for criminal activities across the state.
Recall that the state first imposed a night time curfew on their land borders with other states on the 28th of April, 2021. A statewide curfew was first imposed from 10.00pm to 6.00 am and was later changed from 7.00pm to 6.00am.
On the 16th of May, the existing curfew timeframe was readjusted to 8.30 pm to 6.00am for Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor local government areas only.
