A Group, the Social and Integral Development Centre (SIDEC) based in Awka, has in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Anambra State lent its voice to the fight against Gender Based Violence (GBV) on women and girls.
The campaign themed, ‘UNITE to end Digital Violence Against Women and Girls: Celebrating Survivors of Digital Violence’ started on November 24 with symposia and public demonstrations aimed at creating awareness on the topic ended on Wednesday, December 9 with a road walk.
According to the Programme Officer, Gender Based Violence and Adolescent Health, Ministry of Health Awka, Mrs. Chioma Offor, “it was a 16 days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which started on November.
“The work does not end here; we will continue to create awareness to keep our women and girls safe.
“Within the period of this campaign, SIDEC Women of Resilience, in collaboration with the Anambra State Ministry of Health, raised awareness on the many forms of violence faced by women and girls in the society, and encouraged for open conversations that should break every silence on the matter.
“The campaign may have closed today but our collective responsibility as families, communities, government and organizations continues. GBV remains a daily reality long after the hashtag stops trending.
“Let’s continue to challenge the systems that enable abuse, amplify voices that need to be heard and build safe spaces for women and girls everywhere”.
She, then urged the society and government to keep speaking up, keep supporting survivors and to keep taking action against every act of violence against the women and girls.
