Three students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) Nasarawa State, were on Tuesday, abducted by gunmen.
The Nasarawa State Police spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, added that one of the victims was later rescued by security .operatives.
According to the police, the university’s Chief Security Officer reported the abduction at about 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday. The students were said to have been taken from Living Seed Lodge, a private hostel located in a bushy area on the outskirts of the university’s student residential community.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, patrol officers and other security personnel to the area.
Police operatives launched a search-and-rescue operation in the surrounding forest, leading to the rescue of one of the abducted students.
The command said efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining two students and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could assist security operations. Members of the public were advised to report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest police station.
