Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory, has expressed concern over the tough living conditions in Abuja, saying residents are struggling due to the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking at the 8th Voice of Women Conference and Award in Abuja, Kingibe noted that hunger is widespread, but her focus remains on advocating for residents’ rights, such as pushing for rent reforms to ease tenants’ burdens.
Kingibe emphasized that as a senator, she doesn’t have the budget to execute large-scale projects but ensures that any aid she receives is distributed fairly.
She also highlighted the challenges of being a female senator in a male-dominated National Assembly, especially when it comes to lobbying for essential projects like healthcare, water, and infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Toun Okewale-Sonaiya, convener of the event, called for more women in leadership positions and urged the President to prioritize gender equality in his appointments.
