The Nigerian Army has discharged Private Ruth Ogunleye following her allegations of sexual harassment against senior officers, including Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem. In January, Ogunleye accused Abdulkareem and two other officers of harassment and mistreatment, including forced confinement in a psychiatric hospital after she rejected his advances.

Addressing the media in Abuja, Army spokesperson Major General Onyema Nwachukwu revealed that an investigation found no evidence to support Ogunleye’s claims. Additionally, it was disclosed that Ogunleye had been recommended for medical discharge due to mental health concerns since 2022, and the Army had provided extensive treatment before formally discharging her.

Despite not qualifying for a full pension, Ogunleye will receive 50% disability benefits for life, along with other allowances.
