The leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed willingness to negotiate with the Federal Government under section 17 of the Federal High Court Act.

This was disclosed during proceedings at the Federal High Court in  Abuja on Wednesday.

Speaking through his lead counsel, Alloy Ejimakor, Kanu conveyed his desire for negotiations after presenting two applications before the court.

The first application deals with a motion filed under form 49, while the second is an application objecting to the jurisdiction of the court.

“If these applications are denied,” Ejimakor stated, “we will move for the implementation of Section 17 of the Federal High Court Act.”

While responding to Kanu’s proposal, Counsel to the Federal Government, Adegboyega Awomolo, noted that he lacked the power to negotiate on behalf of the government.

Instead, Awomolo advised Kanu to approach the Attorney General of the Federation for such negotiations.

Justice Binta Nyako responded by stating that the court’s role is not to act as a solicitor but to hear cases presented before it.

Kanu, who has been in custody since his arrest in Kenya in June 2021, is facing charges related to terrorism brought against him by the Federal Government, but Kanu denied the charges
