The National Leader of the Labour Party and former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, on Thursday led the official flag-off of the Labour Party’s campaign ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, throwing his full support behind Dr. George Moghalu.
Addressing a massive crowd in Onitsha, Obi described Moghalu as the right choice to reposition Anambra, urging Ndi Anambra to embrace the Labour Party’s vision for a more compassionate and development-driven government. He emphasized that leadership should always prioritize the welfare of the masses, saying, “Good governance is about building a society where the less privileged are cared for.”
Presenting the party flag to Moghalu and his running mate, Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro, Obi assured the people that the Labour Party under their ticket would offer credible, people-focused leadership anchored on transparency and service.
The event also witnessed an impressive show of solidarity as the Senator representing Anambra Central, Chief Victor Umeh; the Senator representing Anambra North, Mr. Tony Nwoye; and the Member representing Awka North and South in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Lilian Orogbu, stood firmly with Moghalu. Alongside them were numerous Labour Party stakeholders from across the state, all rallying around the governorship hopeful as the best option for Anambra.
In his remarks, Dr. Moghalu pledged to fix critical sectors such as agriculture, education, health, security, and human capital development if elected. “We will serve Ndi Anambra with the fear of God and total commitment to progress,” he assured.
Senators Umeh and Nwoye, as well as Hon. Orogbu, urged Moghalu to remain focused on issue-based campaigns that address the real needs of the people. They described him as the most credible candidate to reposition the state and restore hope.
Earlier, Venerable Chris Orajekwe, who represented the Anambra State Chairman of the Labour Party, said it was time to liberate Anambra from vested interests. He stressed that with the strengthened LP structure, the state was on course to become a Labour Party stronghold, free from oppressive tactics and insecurity linked to the failures of the current administration.
