Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has called on Nigerians to join the fight against insecurity as the criminals called bandits are living among the people and interacting with them. Speaking in an interview on a radio program, he asked Nigerians to complement the efforts of the government by exposing the criminals.
He said the government has been trying its best in the fight against bandits by equipping the security apparatus and have purchased aircraft to help the armies fight while also improving the welfare of the Nigerian Police.
Commenting on Governor El-Rufai’s demand to get mercenaries if the government can’t pull through for the people, he said that the governor only spoke out of deep concern about the situation and at the circumstances in which the bandits are emboldened to operate. He said that all be it, the mercenaries cannot be compared with the nation’s security forces.
Lai Mohammed also lamented about the terrain of the bandit’s enclave which has been a challenge in smoking them out as they can’t go full force to bomb them as the innocents living around them will be killed and that is one problem the government wants to avert.
