It is expected that the size of ships that will be docking at the Lekki Deep Sea Port could be up to four times the size of vessels that currently berth at both Tin Can and Apapa ports. This was revealed by the Lagos state governor, Baba Jide Sanwo Olu at the inauguration of the port on Monday January 23rd by President Muhammadu Buhari .
It is also believed by business experts that the 1.5 billion dollars deep seaport, a joint venture by China Harbor Engineering Company, Singapore based Tolaram Group and the Nigerian Government , will create jobs and equally ease cargo congestion .
Lagos state authority also said that traffic would also be diverted from congested ports with expected economic benefits of more than 360 billion dollars.
China, has been a major lender and funder of some Nigeria’s key infrastructure like rail networks and airport terminals.
